Giti Hosts 2nd Annual “Drift Along” Event

Soon after the tire smoke cleared at the Orlando Formula DRIFT event, the GT Radial drivers and teams headed to Richburg for the 2nd annual Drift Along event. On May 30 and 31, they provided exhilarating, heart-pumping rides to special guests and plant employees on a temporary course at the plant. The smiles on the faces as they climbed out of the passenger seats of the high-powered race cars told it all! Participating were approximately 50 local community and government leaders, GT Radial dealers, news media, local high school students and plant employees.

“The Drift Along event achieves many important objectives…” said GT Radial Motorsport Manager Mike Meeiem. “For our guests, it gives them a first-hand look at one of the world’s most advanced tire plants and creates a sense of pride that the plant is located right here in Richburg. For employees, it lets them experience and witness how the SX2 RS tires they produce perform at extremely high levels. And, of course, all participants enjoyed a thrill of a lifetime by getting to ride shotgun with some of the sport’s most accomplished drivers. Drift Along will certainly be back…”

Giti Tire’s Engagement Committee hosted our 4th semi-annual community Farmer’s Market. This Free event included locally grown produce from our local farmers at Cotton Hill Farm and other non-perishable food items donated by our employees. We had a variety of fruit and vegetables including: beautiful yellow squash, bold green bell peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, sweet peaches, watermelons and cantaloupes, just in time for the summer weather. Giti Sponsors Chester Families for Christmas

Recent Christmases have been different for everyone. With the current COVID-19 pandemic situation still in place, a lot of families had to make different arrangements to see each other during the holidays. Then there were those families who were unable to do anything due to job loss or other unexpected life occurrences, and Chester County, SC was no exception. With a large percentage of families under the national household income average, and COVID rates rising, the need for help is obvious. That’s where the Giti Tire Engagement Committee stepped in.

The Committee saw the need within our community and  ran a newspaper ad asking for community members to nominate a family who was either affected by the pandemic or another sudden unexpected life change. The results were amazing! We received over 13 nominations. The stories touched all on an emotional level, and seven families were chosen.

The families were  invited to the Richburg plant to meet with  Engagement Committee members and Giti North America CEO Phang Wai Yeen. They were each given approximately $700 to use for household goods, food, Christmas gifts, or whatever they needed most. Each family was overjoyed with the kindness shown to them. Mr. Phang was also overjoyed at being given the opportunity to help the community which we call home. We look forward to a brighter year and stand ready to continue helping families in need in the Chester community.
